Studio Buddy

I’m not bragging. But I love being home. I would be a fool not to acknowledge it from time to time.

Today, this was my studio buddy:

Happy Birthday to my Bean. :)

You’re 1 already, Bean. In some ways, it’s gone so quickly…and in other ways, it seems like you should be 4 by now. You’re a great biter. And you always make me smile. I love you!

A Unique Answer to Prayer. And Mario.

Eventhough I have a psychotic amount of production work to be doing, I thought it was important to write this post really quickly.

Yesterday morning, I was praying that I would find a way to get more work done…whether that be help from family, or available babysitters, or lucky napping times for the kids…whatever!

In-between classes at church, I noticed an old school desk with a free sign on it. (I used to have a desk similar to this when I was little — it’s actually where I started doing my Beatles drawings when I got serious about artwork!) Immediately, I could picture Liam sitting at this desk in my art room — occupying himself with playdough or crayons. I knew this was a unique answer to my prayer from earlier!

When I got closer…someone had a note on it that they would pick it up. BUT! When they found out I would be interested if they changed their mind, they said I could take it home! :)

No lie…THREE HOURS. Liam sat there for two hours straight, and then another hour later…playing with his playdough cups. Bean even hung out for a while — playing with spoons.

I was able to get a good start on some shirts for a friend. I’d made her son a Mario shirt for his birthday a couple of months ago, and she wanted matching ones for her other sons. I can’t wait to see all of them together with their shirts! :)

‘Tis the Season to Buy Beatles Spoons

Sgt. Pepper Spoons for Christmas!

Sgt. Pepper Spoons for Christmas!

Hi, folks! Just a quick note here to say, “Merry Christmas!” :)

Business is booming! Literally. I’ve got 100 open orders through Etsy at the moment, and I’ve been lining up babysitters in order to get some extra work time in. Apparently, the world just can’t get enough of these Beatles spoons (Thank you, world)!

Lots of new things going on — The Urban Princess Boutique in Philly picked up some of my products. One of my paintings sold over at Grassroots in the Chicago area. And I illustrated a hand-written book for a customer who used it to propose to his girlfriend (she said yes!).

And, I’m getting to use a Christmas present early — a new-to-me camera!
(Got to love eBay)

The kids are great — Liam’s talking more, the Bean is trying to walk, and Jeffrey hit the slopes for the first time this season.

Bean!

And Jeff put Christmas lights up on the house! Secret dream = realized.

Hope your season is Merry and Bright! :)

You’re a Wizard, John Lennon!

Wait… What?

John Lennon / Harry Potter

John Lennon / Harry Potter

Ahhh, yeah (yeah, yeah)!

Okay, so this might seem a bit creepy to some of you.

Why does she have a John Lennon doll?

And why does it have a Harry Potter costume?

Great questions! I bought the John Lennon doll when I was around 12 at a Beatlefest in Chicago.

Obsession runs deep.

My friend, Jen (another Beatlemaniac), made that Harry Potter costume (it was for a rabbit, which had the glasses, too).

It’s John Lennon’s birthday today. And Halloween is coming.

And I have a new Harry Potter Teething Ring to announce!

From the listing:

Harry Potter-inspired Baby Teether! With the Golden Snitch

You remember how Harry caught his first snitch, don’t you?
He nearly swallowed it!

When your baby joins the Gryffindor Quidditch Team, they can catch the snitch in their mouth, too, with this awesome teething ring.

Fantastic Halloween costume addition, or incredible stocking stuffer.
I promise. :)

So today is just one, big, golden ball of awesome. Heh.

PS – I got this shirt on eBay. For $5.00! It even says, “Potter” on the back. Here are the random strangers who have come up to me because they love it so much: (1) A little boy in Wal-Mart (I love him!) (2) Lady who worked at Staples (3) Possibly drunk man at the Bloomsburg Fair (4) Graying gentleman at the Fair.

My Little Guy is 2 Today

Holy cow. I can’t believe Liam is two years old already!

Brand New Liam

Liam, Age 2

Dear Liam,

You’re my buddy, and I’m so, so glad that you’re a part of my life. :)

Here are some things we did to make memories yesterday:

spin around until we got dizzy
    roll around in the grass
    eat brownies with icing
    read together
watch Beatles movies for the first time
put stickers all over your shirt

Today you’ll have cake, and you’ll keep growing up. You’ll continue to amaze me every day, I’m sure.

Happy Birthday! Thank you for being my little boy. :)

Love, Mommy

Studio Time in Lancaster

Ahhh…being in a ceramics studio…there’s nothing quite like it! I spent a lot of time in the ceramics building in college, and I really, really miss getting my hands dirty.

In July, I visited my sister in Lancaster, PA. On a whim, we decided to walk around downtown. I was impressed by one street that had nothing but cool, little art gallleries, but everything was closed. Eventually, we ended up at The Pottery Works! We had a blast. :) I didn’t get to use any clay, but I selected a pre-fired owl bank — an upcoming present for my daughter’s first Christmas.

Inside, I felt like I was back in my element — studying the different glaze options, giving tips to my sister (who glazed a food dish for my nephew-kitty), and cleaning up my tools at the end.

I chose a glaze that would change its appearance once it was fired. It would have flecks of copper amongst the dark browns and gold.

I had to put four layers on, and leave it at the studio until they could fire the kiln. My sister picked it up a week later, and sent it to me. I’m really happy! It turned out exactly as I imagined.

It’s nice to be slightly ahead for Christmas presents, too — it’s simple, yet semi-handmade. :)
